£3m for partner charities in the bag

Textile recycling firm Bag It Up has generated over £3m for its partner charities since it was launched six years ago after receiving thousands of tonnes of donated clothing, coats, hats, bags, shoes, trainers, boots and household textiles.

The Halifax-based firm works with charities throughout the UK which do not have shops and do not have textile recycling provisions in place.

It places recycling banks in locations including supermarket car parks, household waste recycling sites, shopping centres, community and sports clubs, and other areas with a high footfall, in order to generate donations and raise money.

Partners include Yorkshire Air Ambulance in the Yorkshire region and Thames Valley & Chiltern Air Ambulance in Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire.

Louise Knapton, owner of Bag It Up, said: “We work with regional charities up and down the country to help them collect discarded household clothing items. For many of them it has become the major source of income generation.”
