Project that really took off

What are the prospects for the property sector in Yorkshire and the Humber?

I think that over the next two years growth will generally remain flat or very limited, but it will then pick up pace again. Although businesses need to brace themselves for a fairly stagnant period, those that also prepare for the upturn will be at a great advantage.

What is the best project in which you have been involved?

Acting for Virgin Atlantic Airways in relation to the redevelopment of Terminal 3, Heathrow Airport. This was an important strategic development for Virgin’s business, and as part of a small team of lawyers, I helped the client to move this major project from a concept to an agreed and documented deal with the airport within a short time period.

What is your favourite building and why?

If you could change one thing to improve the property industry in this region, what would it be?

I would say the most important thing we need is a return of confidence. Confidence of occupiers to commit to taking more space; of banks to lend on more transactions; and of investors to put money into new projects. Once this confidence starts to build again, it is likely to lead to a virtuous circle of growth.

Whom do you most admire in the property industry in Yorkshire and the Humber?

Those who are focusing their efforts on spotting and maximising the opportunities in the current market.
