On the Spot with Chris Coleman

Chris Coleman is joint founder and director of Blue Octopus Recruitment in Otley.

What was your first job?

Office junior for Kunick Leisure, now Gamestec in Horsforth.

If not in your present job what would you like to be?

A professional footballer. I had high hopes of achieving my dream when I was 17 but injury affected my chances.

What would be your ideal day out of the office?

At the risk of annoying my wife I would choose either, a full day of appointments with potential clients, promoting Blue Octopus, as I love this part of the job, or a day out with the family.

Name one person you would like to have dinner with and why?

Peter Jones from Dragons’ Den. I find him inspiring.

What was your best subject at school?

The free period. I preferred PE but I also enjoyed maths and media studies.

What are your hobbies?

As I’ve got older golf has become my hobby but I still enjoy playing football.

What’s your top time-saving tip?

Delegation.

What would you do if you won the Lotto?

Being a typical Yorkshireman, I would probably save a lot of it! Investing in other businesses would also appeal as I have a range of ideas for future ventures.

Which political, legal, economic or sporting event would you most like to see happen in your lifetime and why?

I’m looking to go to the next Ryder Cup in Scotland in a few years but I’d love to see the FIFA World Cup and be at the final, preferably watching England win.

What is the best thing about being in business in Yorkshire?

Collaborative working. This helps our businesses develop good, solid relationships and improves the economy for god’s own.

What would you like your epitaph to be?

I think it’s too early for me.
