New owners look to kick-start Super League club's fortunes

A new company has bought the assets of Welsh Super League club Celtic Crusaders following its administration last month.

W Crusaders, which is backed by Wrexham Village, the owners of the Racecourse Ground which the rugby league club shares with Wrexham FC, has transferred all assets and the entire playing squad onto its payroll in a deal struck with administrators for an undisclosed sum.

Joint administrators Peter O'Hara and Simon Weir, of O'Hara & Co, were advised by Leeds law firm Clarion in the negotiations which also resulted in the remaining employees of Celtic Crusaders being taken on by the new firm.

The team will be known as Crusaders RL but there are no planned changes to the playing squad or management team.

The club had been hit by financial difficulties including significant inherited debt which had made the business untenable.
