Lewin puts its shirt on station store

One of Britain's best-known shirtmakers is opening its first regional Express store in Leeds City station. T.M. Lewin has chosen Leeds for a new store which will be aimed at shoppers on the move.

The retailer selected Leeds as the base for its second regional store in 2003, and is investing in the city once again. Managing director Geoff Quinn said: "As the largest centre for business and financial services outside London, Leeds was the obvious choice for our first regional Express store.

"The store will offer the same high level of product and customer service...just in a slightly repackaged way." Leeds is one of Britain's busiest railway stations with more than 37 million passengers passing through each year. T.M.Lewin already has five Express stores in some of London's biggest train stations.

The Leeds Express store will take its network to 80 stores and seven concessions, with 10 more stores due to be launched later this year. Mr Quinn added: "Trade has been fantastic at our stores across the UK. Last year we had sales of over 78m, which produced a 23 per cent increase in earnings to nearly 13m."
