Jewellery worth £20,000 to be sold at Goldsmiths North in Sheffield next month

The attractions include gem set jewellery worth £20,000.

“And once again, this year, the most high-profile, innovative designer makers from the UK and abroad are coming to Sheffield for our annual fair — making Sheffield one of only two cities outside London to stage a shopping experience of this scale.”

Featuring collections from more than 50 independent makers, Goldsmiths North offers a curated range of desirable pieces; spanning handmade silver stud earrings for under £150 to intricate, gem set jewellery selling for many thousands of pounds.

Mr Payne added: “The buzz of the majestic Cutlers’ Hall has attracted collectors, luxury addicts, design aficionados, brides-to-be and of course, impulse shoppers — all energised by the unique, one-of-a-kind treasures available at every price.

“Unlike high street or online shopping, at Goldsmiths North, shoppers buy directly from the makers; meaning not only can you walk away with a bespoke piece of jewellery or silver, but you can chat with the makers about their inspirations, techniques, motivations and even commission your dream piece.”

Sheffield is home to one of just four Assay offices in the UK— specialist institutions set up to hallmark and test the purity of precious metals.

To sell precious metals legally in the UK, any article over the exemption weight must bear a hallmark — which is carried out by submitting it to the Sheffield, Edinburgh, Birmingham or London Assay Office.

The Sheffield Assay Office was established in 1773, when local silversmiths successfully petitioned Parliament for the right to assay silver in Sheffield. Today, jewellery and precious metal are still assayed in their millions each year; bearing the distinctive Sheffield 'Town' mark.

Celebrating the 250th anniversary of the Sheffield Assay Office and in recognition of the city's significance in UK hallmarking, at this year’s Goldsmiths North, visitors get a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see a commemorative hallmark that was designed to celebrate Her Majesty the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022 — a rare hallmark that is no longer available.

In partnership with celebrated Sheffield silversmith Rebecca Joselyn, visitors can see and hold one-off commissions Joselyn has crafted for members of the Royal Family; including an exact replica of the sterling silver sardine sauce pot that carries the rare platinum jubilee commemorative mark.

Plus, all visitors get a chance to not only see the special commemorative hallmark for King Charles' recent Coronation, but they can buy a custom piece of silverware or jewellery carrying it, too.

Goldsmiths North takes place from July 7 to 9.
