Ismail represents sector’s next generation

The Yorkshire Post has appointed Ismail Mulla to the staff of its business desk.

Mr Mulla joined the title on a year-long internship funded by The Printing Charity.

The pioneering scheme was set up to shine a light on Yorkshire’s creative and digital industries and help develop the next generation of talent.

Stephen Gilbert, chief executive of the national charity, said: “I’m delighted to hear that Ismail has got a full-time post and particularly at The Yorkshire Post, one of our leading regional daily newspapers.

“I have watched Ismail grow and develop over the last year and I have been impressed by the progress he has made and the quality of his articles and blogs that he has produced. He goes with the charity’s best wishes for a long and successful career.”

Mr Mulla, who is from Dewsbury, has been reporting on general business news as well the creative and digital industries.

These are responsible for more than 120,000 jobs in the region, the largest concentration of printing, publishing and related jobs outside of London. Mr Mulla received training and mentoring during his salaried internship.

He said: “I am very proud to be joining the staff here at The Yorkshire Post on a permanent basis. I have dreamed of being a journalist since the age of ten.

“This wouldn’t have been possible if it wasn’t for The Printing Charity’s help.

“The charity has not only given me the opportunity to learn from some of the best in the business but also given me a chance to showcase my enthusiasm and ever developing abilities.”
