Hairdressing company celebrates anniversary

A QUARTER of a century ago, Margaret Thatcher was about to seal her third General Election triumph, and Yorkshire’s retail heartland was on the cusp of a revival.

Marc Westerman and Steve Rowbottom opened the Westrow hairdressing salon in the Victoria Quarter in Leeds on April 1 1987.

They have seen off two recessions, and countless changes in popular hair styles, to establish a business that has seven salons and employs more than 100 staff.

“Celebrating 25 years in business is a wonderful feeling,” said Mr Westerman. “We have been through some tough financial times over the years, but have stayed strong, which is testament to our enduring business partnership and vision for the brand.”

Mr Rowbottom added: “Some of our staff have been with us for 20 years, and have evolved as the business has grown, and for that we are truly grateful.”

Westrow has won a string of awards and regularly features backstage at London Fashion Week.

Apart from Leeds, Westrow, which has a turnover of around £3.5m, has salons in Wetherby, Ilkley, Harrogate and York.

The 25th anniversary was celebrated at a party in Aspire, Leeds, which featured staff and leading industry names.
