Sheffield City Council’s Strategy and Resources Committee will discuss six proposals for the former John Lewis store in Barker's Pool, Sheffield, and decide whether to proceed to the next stage of detailed negotiations with the preferred bidder recommended by council officers.

The preferred bidder proposes to transform the building into a mixed-use space, including cafes, retail, leisure, event and workspace. Other proposals include a hotel, offices and residential use.

Coun Tom Hunt, leader of Sheffield City Council and chairman of the Strategy and Resources Committee, said: “This promises to be a really positive step forward for Sheffield.”

Opened in 1963, the former Cole Brothers store later became John Lewis, before closing in 2021.
