Former popular restaurant in most affluent area of city to be turned into two new businesses creating 30 jobs

A popular restaurant that shut down last year is to be turned into two new businesses creating 30 jobs.

The former Dore Grill site on Church Lane in Dore, Sheffield, is being renovated and converted into a modern bar & restaurant and an artisan bakery & coffee shop.

Both businesses are set to open this spring.

The space will provide all day casual dining for 190 covers across the bar, restaurant and outside terrace area.

The menu will feature Italian inspired dishes with a good range of wines, spirits, beers and cocktails.

The on-site bakery and coffee shop will be open from 8:30am with both businesses operating seven days a week.

The development is by an independently owned retail and hospitality group based in the Peak District.

Other sites include Bank House Hathersage, Coach House Castleton, Nineteen Ten Café and Castleton Coffee Co.

The two new businesses will create 30 jobs for the local area and are inviting applications for bakers, baristas, cocktail bartenders, front of house and kitchen staff at all levels.

Director Samantha Vardy said: "Our aim is to deliver a great customer experience and we want to recruit the very best people for this exciting new hospitality project."

The Dore Grill shut its doors for good in November after 35 years. Its owners said at the time that ‘the costs are too great’ and despite rave reviews too few customers visited regularly.

In a Facebook post, the owners said: “It is with the greatest regret that I must announce that the old adage ‘use it or lose it’ has come true. We may have 5 star reviews on TripAdvisor but that has made no difference to our customer numbers."

They added: “We have tried our best to keep going but the costs are too great. The large chains can weather the storm but tiny family owned businesses like ours have had no chance.

“Thanks all to our regular customers for your support over the last 36 years.”

The building was put up for sale, with the estate agent Crosthwaite Commercial describing it as a ‘rare opportunity in Dore Village’.
