Creator of the World Wide Web convention’s keynote speaker

THe entrepreneur who transformed the lives of billions of people by developing the World Wide Web will be the keynote speaker at this year’s Yorkshire International Business Convention.

Sir Tim Berners-Lee created the web in 1989 and it was launched on the internet two years later.

His invention now means that people worldwide have access to up to 225 million web sites.

Convention chief executive Mike Firth said: “Since the event began we have had some of the most powerful, inspiring and influential political and business leaders in the world speaking to the delegates, but in terms of directly impacting on individual lives this guy is in a league of his own.

“Because of the web virtually every one of us has fundamentally changed the way we communicate, socialise, shop, learn, work and play.”

Sir Tim joins a speaker line-up which also includes the England cricket captain Andrew Strauss who led the team to victory in the Ashes in Australia.

All the speakers will be addressing the delegates at the convention’s twin sites on Friday, June 10 at Harrogate International Centre and Bridlington Spa.
