Class ACT as Japanese link-up to create jobs

A YORKSHIRE-based company has doubled its staff numbers after forging a lucrative alliance with a major Japanese firm.

Advanced Component Technology (ACT) yesterday officially opened a distribution centre for Kawasaki hydraulics in Silsden, West Yorkshire, a development which should provide a shot in the arm for the regional economy.

The new centre is set to double ACT’s turnover to £3m. It has already helped to double the company’s staff numbers to 28.

The new centre will help to support the UK hydraulic system and machine manufacturer industry.

ACT’s director Stephen Lund said the development would also increase the size of the company’s local supplier chain.

Kawasaki UK managing director Steve Cardew yesterday met ACT directors and regional dignitaries at the official opening.

The new centre will supply products to the power generation, mining, offshore and marine markets.

ACT has been an authorised distributor for Kawasaki Precision Machinery for more than 16 years. The team supplies and distributes Kawasaki hydraulic products from its factory and training centre in Silsden.

Mr Lund said: “We had previously been one of four general distributors in the UK, but to be awarded sole responsibility for Kawasaki’s UK distribution changes the face of our business.”

The company plans to boost its technical expertise to include product application and support for the Kawasaki hydraulic product ranges.

ACT also plans to offer on-site training for hundreds of specialist businesses in the UK.

Those attending the launch yesterday included the Lord Mayor of Bradford, Coun Khadim Hussain, and Barra Mac Ruairi, Bradford Council’s director of regeneration and culture.
