China’s vital new link with Yorkshire

CHINESE manufacturer Power Link Machine Co has established its European headquarters in Yorkshire, creating at least 15 new jobs.

Backed by funding from HSBC, the company, which manufactures and distributes diesel power generation sets, plans to grow its UK operation, based in Sherburn in Elmet, North Yorkshire, to a turnover of £10m within two years.

The business already employs more than 400 people in its Shanghai factory.

Sophie Han, general manager of Power Link Machine UK, said: “This investment in our European operation is a significant step for the business and will enable us to pursue further European and international opportunities.

“Our relationship with HSBC China enabled us to access the expertise of the HSBC Leeds team, allowing us to plan our investment with local knowledge and global expertise.”

Mark Vines, regional commercial director for HSBC in Yorkshire and the North-East, said: “Bringing foreign direct investment to Yorkshire from China is a sign of the region’s economic strength and strong skill base, and we’re delighted that, thanks to our global footprint and connectivity, we have been able to assist Power Link on a local level in establishing their UK business and providing the finance for their new premises.

“The company has an ambitious growth strategy and we are looking forward to supporting them.”
