Benenden Health acquires Edinburgh-based insurance brokers

THE York-based mutual healthcare provider, Benenden Health, yesterday revealed that it had completed the acquisition of Edinburgh-based Keegan & Pennykid (Insurance Brokers).

Benenden, which has just under 900,000 members and achieved revenue of £90m last year, has bought Keegan & Pennykid for an undisclosed sum.

Announcing the acquisition Marc Bell, the chief executive of Benenden, said: “I am delighted to welcome the directors and staff of Keegan & Pennykid into our organisation and look forward to working with them to grow our mutual community alongside our core healthcare service. We will continue to operate with the existing management and staff and under the Keegan & Pennykid brand.”

Keegan & Pennykid had 17 staff based in Edinburgh, and they will all remain there. The business was founded in 1968, and provides advice across the UK and Northern Ireland, to individuals, businesses, charities, voluntary organisations, social enterprises and community interest companies.

Mr Keenan added: “We see Keegan & Pennykid as a key new site – expanding our UK footprint.”
