ASOS sacrifices profits to expand facility

ASOS started in 1999 when founders Quentin Griffiths and Nick Robertson (who is still chief executive) had the idea of starting an internet business where people could find clothes or accessories they had seen celebrities wearing.

Originally called As Seen On Screen, the company was quickly abbreviated to ASOS and the focus switched to fashion rather than copycat clothing.

ASOS targets twenty-somethings, selling cutting-edge ‘fast fashion’.

It sells over 75,000 branded and own-brand products through localised mobile and websites, delivering from its UK hub in Barnsley to almost every country in the world.
