Advice centre gets new chairman

An advice group which helps small businesses to achieve their potential has appointed a former Sheriff of York to a senior role.

Bob Scrase, a director of the York printing company Fulprint, has become chairman of York, Selby and Malton Business Advice Centre (YBAC).

Norman Whyte, the chief executive of YBAC, said: "We are delighted that Bob, who has been a board director since the company was formed, has agreed to become chair of YBAC.

"He has a wealth of business experience that will prove invaluable to us."

Mr Whyte said Mr Scrase had a unique insight into how the public and private sectors could work together.

Mr Scrase said: "It's exciting to be chairing an organisation which helps so many businesses – both start-ups and existing ones.

"We all need good advice and there is plenty of it here."

YBAC was founded more than 20 years ago as York Enterprise. Today, YBAC, which is based at the York Eco Business Centre, gives free, impartial advice to business owners in North Yorkshire.

With Business Link facing an uncertain future, it was more important than ever that YBAC gave a sense of stability to North Yorkshire business owners, Mr Whyte added.
