Programme of events to celebrate 20th anniversary of Brassed Off
Released in 1996, Brassed Off told the story of a colliery brass band conductor struggling to maintain the morale of his musicians when the future of the pit is thrown into doubt.
Filmed in and around Barnsley, and featuring and inspired by the real story of the Grimethorpe Colliery Band, the anniversary has prompted the town’s The Civic theatre to put together a programme of events celebrating its meaning to the community.

We begin this season by bringing together brass musicians with contemporary dance and circus artists: the results of which are really exciting and now to be missed.”
Highlights include members of the Carlton Main Frickley Band performing in Barnsley-born choreographer Gary Clarke’s production of COAL; and Frumptarn Guggenband and Barnsley Town Concert Band making a guest appearance in the UK premiere of Opus 7 by French circus company Circa Tsuica.
