Review: When We Lived in Uncle's Hat ***

At York Theatre Royal

When We Lived in Uncle's Hat poses one question really: What makes a home?

The tutti frutti production takes the audience on a musical journey through imagined homes from the Moon to the cinema, from "nowhere" to even on top of uncle's hat, as we follow a three-generation family in their search for a happy home.

Told through the eyes of Sammy, a young boy, the stage adaptation of Peter Stamm's children's book takes the audience on an energetic, funny, thought-provoking, and sometimes sad, journey as we come to the conclusion that it is a family that makes

a home.

Performed by the award-winning Leeds children's theatre company and the critically acclaimed York Theatre Royal, When We Lived in Uncle's Hat keeps the young audience enthralled, if sometimes leaving older members a little baffled.

The creative team behind this well-crafted and moving production includes tutti frutti's artistic director, Wendy Harris (director), Alison Heffernan (design), with choreography by Ruth Tyson-Jones and original music by Dominic Sales.

Aimed at the over-fives When We Lived in Uncle's Hat will be in the Studio at York Theatre Royal until October 17 before going on national tour.
