Health Matters: 'Getting it right' DVD launched

The Getting it Right training DVD, produced by Sheffield Primary Care Trust's Centre for HIV and Sexual Health, is designed to improve the quality of delivery of sexual health services by helping them to become more accessible to the local communities they support.

Premiered at a special launch event at Sheffield Town Hall, the DVD features views and suggestions from local people of different ages, gender, ethnicity and sexual orientation on how services could make them feel more valued and welcome. It also includes practical tips from experienced health professionals.

Plea for organ donor volunteers

As we head towards 2011, people are being urged to make a New Year's resolution to join the Organ Donor Register.

More than 100 adults and five children in Bradford are on the waiting list for an organ.

Dr Paul Cramp, clinical donation champion and intensive care unit consultant anaesthetist at the Bradford Royal Infirmary, said: "Organ donation is seen as a gift of life. One organ donor has the potential to save seven lives, which is an incredible gift. "Please think about joining the organ donor register to give the gift of life to someone after you have died."

The local health care trust set up an organ donation committee to try to increase awareness of transplantation and to boost the number of donors, after it was revealed only seven organ donations had been made since 2005. Since the start of 2010, the trust has seen five cadaveric donations – four of which have taken place since July.

Young dentist wins award

Clarendon Dental Spa in Leeds is celebrating yet again as one of its dentists picked up a gong at The Dentistry Awards 2010.

Practice's partner, Dr Jayendra Patel, won the Best Young Dentist (North East) award.

The award is for dentists who are 35 years and under, who have achieved a standard of practice management seemingly beyond their experience, or who have achieved notable things at this early stage of their career.
