Go, go, boho

When boho meets holiday, the result is pure relaxed glamour – and it's a look that can be adapted to suit all ages and figures. The only essential is an open mind, plus a love of colour, pattern and all that jangles (be it gold or otherwise).

You only have to step outside your front door to establish the fact that this is the summer of love for flowing, chilled-out dressing, led chiefly by the maxi dress as, throughout the county, gangs of partying ladies have been hitting the town dressed in their maxis, inspired, no doubt, by Sex and the City III and that fabulous image of Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte and Samantha, swathed in bright, swirling silks, striding out across the desert.

But, as I said, this is a glamorous boho look, not a hippy boho look, so bling is a must. No matter where you are going, your holiday wardrobe really should consist of at least one maxi, and at least two kaftans, one shorter and one longer, both embellished if possible, and in colours that co-ordinate with your bikini or swimsuit.

In the sales now are the most gorgeously exotic kaftan tops in fabulously bright prints – check out the online shops for the final bargains if you don't like rummaging around in the final sales pickings in-store.

Harem pants are another holiday must, and there are new, silky, very wearable versions hitting the stores right now in the autumn collections (try Karen Millen for lovely khaki silky ones).

On holiday, more is more, so pile on those bangles, earrings and necklaces, add scarves as belts, and seek out the chicest, blingiest sandals you can find (one high pair, one flat).

Just remember to remove one or two pieces as you get off the plane and prepare to head home through the wind and the rain because this, sadly, is not a look that travels.

So enjoy it while you can.
