Classical preview: Spring chamber concerts
Created in 1981 as a musical ambassador and showcase for the European Union, and financed by the European Commission in Brussels, it has brought together a chamber group of between fifty and sixty outstanding young professional musicians who annually tour the whole of Europe, and at times venturing further abroad to much acclaim.
As part of their Spring Season of UK concerts, they bring to Leeds the charismatic winner of the 2016 BBC Young Musician of the Year, the 17-year-old cellist, Sheku Kenneth-Mason. He will be the soloist in Haydn’s delightful Cello Concerto, the very varied programme opening with the familiar Suite from Handel’s Water Music. Delius’s atmospheric Two Aquarelles, and Mozart’s Twenty-ninth Symphony complete the evening.
