Classical Preview: Forget the rush hour at early-evening concerts
Launched a couple of years ago, but this year offering a new-look mix of thought-provoking, virtuoso and easy-on-the-ear concerts, the downstairs ballroom provides a refuge while the roads begin to clear.
Starting next Wednesday, the relaxed presentation dispenses with the usual concert formula, this year featuring composers coming to talk about their music, with a fabulous line-up of top-name performers on stage.

Hide AdFirst up is the exciting contemporary music group, Psappha, who are including music by Swedish-born Fredrik Hogberg; American jazz pianist, Lyle Mays, and making a personal appearance, British-born Anna Clyne, who is presently making a big career as a composer in the US.
It's definitely one for the girls on June 23 with the appearance of fashion model Charlie Siem. He also happens to be one of today's most talented virtuoso violinists.
Also crossing over the classical threshold is Sheffield's Ensemble 360's pianist, Tim Horton, who brings his trio to play music from the 1950s, while Samay returns to offer a fusion of jazz, flamenco and funk in a programme with a difference.
Included are the now familiar names of the Manchester Camerata, Halle String Ensemble and the contemporary music pianist, Philip Thomas.
Tickets for this period of relief come for just 5.
