Champion launch as charities splash out

Yorkshire-based 2009 world triathlon champion Alistair Brownlee and his brother Jonathan, reigning under-23 world triathlon champion, will officially open the newly-refurbished hydrotherapy swimming pool at Ravenscliffe High School & Sports College in Halifax.

The new hydro-pool has been funded through a partnership between BT and The Lord's Taverners.

BT Ambassadors, Alistair and Jonathan Brownlee, will take to the pool to experience first-hand the groundbreaking technology which allows young people with learning difficulties and physical disabilities to improve mobility and communication skills in a stimulating environment.

Ravenscliffe's hydrotherapy pool was originally installed over 30 years ago and required essential refurbishment to meet growing demand from pupils and the local community.

The multi-sensory pool has been fitted with special ceiling and underwater lighting which can be operated via floating switches, while a dedicated corner of the pool provides the youngsters with the therapeutic benefits of whirlpool bathing.

BT has a three-year partnership with The Lord's Taverners, which will see 12 new "sensory areas" installed in special schools across the country.

The two organisations are investing nearly 400,000 in the project, which will enhance the lives of disabled youngsters and leave a

legacy in communities around the UK.
