Big names lined up for Harlow Carr

Some famous names are going to help celebrate the opening of the new award-winning £3.3m Bramall Learning Centre and to mark 60 years of gardening at RHS Garden Harlow Carr, in Harrogate.

The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) has announced a series of October

garden lectures featuring top horticulturalists.

October 8 – Joe Swift, Cleve West and

James Alexander-Sinclair: "Three Men Went to Mow". Three TV garden designers aim to produce a fast and witty show of their personal gardening experiences.

October 15 – Andrew McIndoe: "Hardworking Trees & Shrubs".

The managing director and garden designer for Hillier Nurseries specialises in sustainable schemes using shrubs, roses and perennials and this lecture will offer practical help and advice for those wishing to introduce new shrubs and trees to a garden or maintain existing plants.

October 22 – Matthew Wilson: "Making a Garden". Matthew Wilson is former Curator of both RHS Garden Hyde Hall and Harlow Carr. This lecture will draw on ideas from his book, Making a Garden, and offer visitors the chance to ask questions about particular problems or challenges they face in their own garden.

October 29 – Toby Buckland: "Ethical Gardening". Lead presenter of BBC Gardeners' World, Toby has designed dozens of gardens for TV and private clients.

Here he will offer practical help for gardeners wishing to embrace more ethical gardening practices.

Lectures will all take place in the Bramall Learning Centre at RHS Garden Harlow Carr, starting at 7.30pm. Tickets are 35 (30 for RHS members). Call 0845 612 1253 to find out more and book.
