Arts Diary: Will Marriott

There are so many things about this story that just made us chuckle.

First is the very un-rock and roll behaviour of cancelling your gig due to snow, especially when your band's called Heatseeker.

Then there is the fact that there is a tribute band to the colossal rock outfit ACDC – made up of (taken from their own PR) "four Yorkshire lads and one Italian, who is now a fully converted Yorkshire rocker".

Heatseeker, who had to cancel their gig at the Georgian Theatre Royal in Richmond will be making it up to their fans with a re-scheduled gig at the venue on January 21. Rock on.

Def Leppard tribute band Pyromania have placed an advertisement looking for a one-armed drummer.

According to a picture posted on Stereogum.com, the Texas band are looking to replicate the exact look of the Sheffield metallers and have placed an advert that begins with the words: "Seeking one-armed drummer (no prosthetics)!" The advert also asks that potential candidates have a "flame retardant kit" and aren't "dope fiends".

Def Leppard's drummer Rick Allen lost his arm in 1984 in a car accident, but has played on since. The band are not to be confused with a Californian Def Leppard tribute band, also called Pyromania, who have described the advert as "in very bad taste" and have asked people not to "confuse them with completely disgusting and disrespectful behaviour".

When there's nothing but bad news for the arts sector, here's a ray of light. Jeremy Hunt suggested when announcing arts cuts, that organisations could go to the commercial sector for funding – which the West Yorkshire Playhouse has done. The Leeds theatre provides a number of initiatives so that people with disabilities can fully enjoy shows, from audio description to captioned shows – and from now on all those access initiatives will be supported by the law firm Irwin Mitchell.

Jane Horton, partner at Irwin Mitchell, said: "We are keen to demonstrate the value of culture to the region and the importance of the work it does for our communities."
