Dog walking in Yorkshire: Best dog walking routes in Yorkshire according to travel experts where you can admire views of the countryside, moors and gardens

In honour of National Pet Month, travel experts have listed the best dog-friendly walks in Yorkshire.

National Pet Month takes place between April 1 and May 1 and aims to raise awareness of the responsibility of owning a pet.

Since April marks the start of spring, it is the perfect time to explore new places to take your dog for a walk, get out in the fresh air and treat your dog to an adventure outdoors and the Yorkshire countryside is the ideal place to do that.

With its closeness to the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District, these areas for dog-friendly walks are located in tranquil parts of the country and plenty of places for owners to enjoy a pit stop or two along the way.

Experts at Eat Drink Meet have sifted through Yorkshire’s top dog walks and trails, which offer spectacular views, stunning sights and also provide dog-friendly pubs for owners and puppies alike to enjoy a drink at the end of a long walk.

They have used AllTrails to identify the best dog walking routes that start and/or end at one of the pubs in the area.

Best dog walking routes in Yorkshire

1 - Cow and Calf and Ilkley Moor Circular

This 5.3km distance walking route is a shorter version of the Ilkley Moor Circular, which is perfect for elderly dogs or those walkers not looking to embark on long walks.

The trip ends with a trip to the Cow and Calf pub.

2 - Valley Gardens

This trail is situated in the beautiful spa town of Harrogate and offers scenic views of the English Heritage Grade II listed gardens.

You can finish off the walk at Pine Marten.

3 - Roundhay Park - Waterloo Lake

This walk in Leeds has a distance of 2.7km and takes around 45 minutes.

You can stop off at Roundhay Fox pub at the end of the walk.

4 - Ilkley Moor

Located between Ilkley and Keighley in West Yorkshire. The moor walk is part of Rombald’s Moor which spans 1,319ft and offers stunning panoramic views.

It is also part of the South Pennines Special Protection Area, in a bid to prevent ecological damage.

The area is home to several walking routes that range in difficulty, and nearly all of which start or end at the Cow and Calf on the Hangingstone Rocks, overlooking Wharfedale.

5 - Twelve Apostles and Beyond Heritage walk

This walk is a 7.6km long circular route which starts at White Wells car park and covers the highest point of the Moor.
