140 businesses created per day in Yorkshire and the Humber in first half of 2023, research reveals
Analysis of Companies House data reveals that 25,241 businesses were registered in Yorkshire and the Humber between January and June 2023. The figure represents a 7 per cent from 2022.
Nationally, the data shows that 99 new businesses were created every hour in the first half of 2023, representing nearly 436,000 new businesses created between January and June 2023, an increase of 9 per cent compared to 2022.

iwoca’s Business Hotspots 2023 list reveals Kirklees saw the highest business creation per capita out of all local authorities in Yorkshire and the Humber. The region saw 596 new businesses created per 100,000 people. Leeds retained its spot as second in the region with 586 new businesses per 100,000 residents, while Bradford ranks third in Yorkshire with 571.
