PIANO virtuoso Emmanuel Vass is teaming up with two bright young musicians from the local area to perform a recital in Thorganby.
Former Woldgate student and Melbourne resident Emmanuel has performed alongside international stars, chart-topping band the Doves as well as delighting royalty and foreign diplomats with his musical flair.
He is now using his experience to help emerging musical talent in our area and is gearing up for a recital at the Thicket Priory Carmelite Monastery in the village of Thorganby, 12-miles from Pocklington, on 26 November
He will be joined by soprano Katie Wood of Barmby Moor and violinist Katherine Raven of Thorganby, two talented 17-year-old musicians whom Emmanuel met whilst studying at the specialist Yorkshire Young Musicians school in Leeds.
He said: “It promises to be a fantastic evening.
“I am extremely grateful to the Carmelite Nuns of Thicket Priory for inviting me to perform in such a beautiful environment.”
Emmanuel’s career has got off to a flying start, at just 22-years-old he has already performed before the HSH Prince and Princess Albert and Charlene of Monaco, Lord Levy and the Russian Ambassador within Kensington Palace Gardens and has rubbed shoulders with the likes of Lulu and The Manfreds.
But despite his rapid ascent into the musical stratosphere, Emmanuel has remained true to Yorkshire and uses the family home in Melbourne as a base for when he is working in the region.
He acts as a Yorkshire Young Musicians ambassador and is passionate about nurturing young musical talent in the region.
He told the Pocklington Post: “As a former student of the Yorkshire Young Musicians, it really did help me progress and advance.
“Now that I have come out of the other side and had such a successful start to my career, I am very keen to promote young talent in Yorkshire and give them the opportunity to take part in recitals such as this, to get themselves heard by large audiences.
“It is something I feel very passionate about and I’m happy to try and use my experience to help young musicians from the region.”
Emmanuel’s career continues to go from strength to strength and he will be performing stateside next year after beating off thousands of musicians from across Europe to become one of just two pianists selected by the Disney entertainment company to tour with them.
He expects to fly to America in the Spring to perform at Disney’s theme parks and cruise ships.
• Tickets for the Thicket Priory recital cost £7 with all proceeds going to The Salvation Army for the work that they do over Christmas, as well as supporting the work of the Carmelite Nuns within the community.
