At least it's the last one in Mosborough.

A new housing estate is earmarked for the former Westfield School site, off Moss Way.

But festival boss Steve Cowens, who admits he will have a tear in his eyes when the last notes are played out on Saturday, is planning to expand and move his spectacle next year to Don Valley Bowl, at the back of Sheffield Arena.

And he's still planning to call it the Mosborough Music Festival. At least for now.

He believes fans already identify closely with it by name and calling it anything else could be detrimental to his plans.

And what a legacy. Past stars at the festival, celebrating its sixth year, included Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbott, who performed there for the first time after splitting from The Beautiful South.

Other notable performers have included Bad Manners, The Selector and The Farm, Twang, Lucy Spraggan, The Sherlocks and in 2013, Reverend and the Makers - who return this year.

This year's festival, on Friday night and all day Saturday - June 3 and 4 - features a top drawer line-up performing on three stages, also including Space, The Southmartins, Complete Madness, Jungle Lion, Redfaces and Doncaster high-flyers Bang Bang Romeo.

Also playing are Marquis Drive, Dirty Sterling, The Velcro Teddy Bears, The Shanklins, Phat Bollard, Tom Hingley, Bongo & the Soul Jar, Maybelleen, The Jackobins, Reasons to be Cheerful, James Lamb and Malarkey Affair.

Whitehornes estate agents and C&G assessments have once again sponsored the festival. There is already extended capacity this year for over 3,000 people, with a Friday night show and on-site camping introduced for the first time.

But if you want to go, be quick. It's heading for a sell out.

Steve said: “There’s been so many great memories. It will be quite sad that this year’s festival is the last on the Mosborough site, due to development of the land.

"But it won’t be the end of Mosborough as a festival - we will continue in the hope that our crowd understand the fact that we have to move and follow us to a new site which we have decided will be Don Valley Bowl.

"Last year sold out and we could have sold another 1,000 tickets such was the demand. It’s a win - win situation for our festival-goers as we are cheap, high quality, family orientated and also look after charities along the way.

"We raised just under £5,000 for charities last year and are hoping to do at least the same for this year’s charities which are Help for Heroes and Roundabout youth housing."

Steve added, “We try not to be any old festival, our catch phrase is ‘we are the people’s festival with a heart’. We try to be different and really look after our crowd, we even had a marriage proposal on stage last year, thankfully she said ‘yes’.

"This year we’ve got another outstanding line up which includes our own Reverend & the Makers, top Liverpool band Space, Tom Hingley (ex Inspiral Carpets), Cornish buskers Phat Bollard, Complete Madness, The Southmartins plus the best of Sheffield’s own thriving music scene.

"I think we are the best value festival in the country and so do a lot of other people. Let’s hope for another sell out and a successful move to Don Valley Bowl in 2017. I really hope we keep the festival alive as its great for Sheffield, it’s great for the people and it’s great for charities, it’s just not that great for my health!"
