Whether you pick a winner or not, a day at the races is a great day out.

Beverley Racecourse is the only one in East Yorkshire and was established almost 350 years ago.

The course, on the Weswtood, has a range of enclosures to suit all budgets – so you can sip champagne in one of the premier enclosures, or take your car into the centre of the track and enjoy a picnic.

The sight of a thoroughbred pounding along the home straight at up to 40mph is quite a spectacle – and it is even better if it is the horse you have backed.

Chief executive Sally Iggulden said: “With excellent sporting action with horses and jockeys from all over the country converging on the Westwood, a day at Beverley Races really is an occasion for everyone.

“All profits made by the race company are returned into maintaining and upgrading the facilities and this is a culture of which we are proud.

“We are often called the friendly racecourse, and we like to think that’s an accurate description. There are 19 race days each year offering memorable experiences for all.”

The highlight of the course’s calendar is Ladies Day, which takes place next Wednesday. Fashion and racing collide at one of the social events of the year, with prizes for the best dressed guests and the most magnificent hats.

But there are plenty of other meetings throughout the season, which appeal to experienced punters and those who are looking for a fun day out.

The Beverley Bullet Sprint at the end of the month is the Westwood’s most prestigious race of the year, while the course also holds a number of themed days to attract families.

Meetings take place between April and September, with a mix of weekday and weekend meetings, afternoon sessions and evenings.

You can bet as little as £1 and admission to the cheapest area, the course enclosure is £5.
