The cricket season is fast approaching and Pocklington CC is getting prepared for what it hopes will be one of its best seasons for many a year.
Indoor nets at Francis Scaife Sports Centre have been a huge success for both junior and senior players. Over 40 junior players every Sunday have been attending coaching sessions throughout February and March. This has involved children, ranging from six to 15 years of age, receiving coaching, which will hopefully help when under-nine, under-11, under-13 and under-15 teams take to the field in early May.
Senior nets have been the best attended in the club’s history. Around 30 players have made use of the same facility, netting, working on fitness and carrying out fielding drills.
The final two indoor sessions, for both juniors and seniors, are on Sunday 25 March and Sunday 1 April.
Junior outdoor training will commence on Thursday 19 April, for all age groups, from 6.15pm-7.45pm. New and old members can sign on for the season on this evening.
Pocklington CC has several friendly fixtures before the league season begins on Saturday 21 April. A Pocklington XI take on Selby Londesborough at Pocklington CC on Sunday 8 April. Then, on Sunday 15 April, Pocklington travel to play at Driffield.
Off the field, Pocklington CC has been hard at work building new changing rooms. At the moment, the build has reached roof height. It is hoped to get the roof, windows and doors completed within the next month.
Pocklington CC will be holding its annual NatWest CricketForce weekend over the weekend of Saturday 31 March/Sunday 1 April. All members are encouraged to attend from 10.30am each day to paint the clubhouse, clean and tidy and help with ground work. We hope to see old and new members, young and old. Help Pocklington CC be one of the best clubs in the area.
