Malton & Norton19
Another strong showing by the Panthers was not enough at home to Malton, where they led for an hour before being hit by Malton’s late show that brought them the victory with three tries.
It was always going to be a tight contest between two determined sides that have made good starts to the season.
The Panthers made the livelier start as they got the ball wide early on for wing Jason Beevers to sprint over. Scrum half Joe Shepherdson added a good conversion, and when he also added a penalty to make it 10-0, things looked rosy for the Panthers.
But Malton stepped up their efforts in the final quarter and, as the Panthers ran out of steam, they were gradually reeled in. Panthers flanker Brook Waudby used all his guile and determination to try and stem the tide, but the momentum was with Malton as they scored three times in the closing minutes to steal the result.
