Tennis: Sutton On Derwent pick up first point of the season in mixed section

Sutton’s first mixed team registered their first point of the season with a draw against local rivals Dunnington. With three games as a cushion going into the last rubber, Dunnington upped their game and managed to salvage a draw, much to the team’s disappointment. Goldie Crosby, with partner Chris Hobson, topped with 22 games.

The second mixed team is so far unbeaten with three matches played. A strong contingent of players each week has led to some sound wins, but some close ones, the latest being against Tollerton in the glorious sunshine - a Hobson/Hitchenor duo topped the evening with 27 games won.

The third mixed team has suffered slightly at the hands of the weather with two matches played to date – a win and a draw.

The ladies and men’s teams have all notched up some excellent play over the weekends.

The weather has played its part with a few postponed matches and some abandoned part way through.

Bank Holiday Monday saw the second Spoons Tournament of the year with a glorious afternoon in the sunshine. A well-matched afternoon on the grass was enjoyed by many. The club is holding free children’s coaching on Monday evenings at 6pm. This is being well attended, and continues into June.
