Stamina challenge for runners

The second leg of the YDRRL 10K series of races took place in Tadcaster on a cool and, largely, dry evening. The course includes a couple of steep hills which challenged the season stamina of the 233 runners.

There was a good showing of Pocklington Runners, despite many of them having put in a big effort at the Beverley 10k on the previous Sunday.

Richard Ginn had another fast run which got him back first for Pocklington, in seventh place overall, with a time of 37:02 (third in category), Steven Worth continued his solid start to the year with 38:51, Kevin Norman is clearly enjoying his move into a new age category with a time of 39:45 (third in category), Martin Harris was just behind with 40:00, Stuart Smith 40:13 and Patrick Piggott 40:23 filled the final positions in the men’s A team which took third place.

Clive Jeffery followed up his strong showing in Pocklington with an excellent 41:44, Alan Kendra 42:45, Patrick Hough 43:28, Mike Pullon 43:42, Garry Tebbutt 44:42 and then the first Pock Woman to finish; Alison Thornton 44:46 (second in category). Keith Oliver overcame marathon legs to record 44:47 (fourth in category), Paul Sheridan 46:03, Marcus Bourne 46:09, Jill Dowson 46:19 (third in category), Clive Reid 46:42 (fifth in category), Lindsay Cameron 46:46, Brett Britton 48:30, Colin Shipley 49:00 and with a time of 49:05 Adele Shipley brought the women’s A team back in fourth position.

Helen Pickersgill 50:45 (PB) was paced around by Clare Davison 50:46, Rod Robinson 53:39, Debbie Rycroft 54:30, Jackie Robinson continued her strong category results with third in 55:07, Sue Vicary 55:31, Faye Jessop 55:41, Giles Brighton 56:06, Emma Barker 60:21, Di Thompson 63:49 and Sharron Anderson 63:54.

Warwick Anderson, together with Martin Skelton, undertook another off road ultra event and completed the ‘Old County Tops’ of Helvellyn, Scafell Pike and the Old Man of Coniston, finishing 77th team of 110 in a time of 10 hours and 54 minutes. Warwick commented: “Great race starting in horizontal rain and strong winds up to Helvellyn, and finishing in balmy, windless conditions in lovely Langdale. Was a great day out.”

York Park runners this week were Lindsay Cameron 22:05 (third in category), Adele Shipley 22:13, Debbie and Simon Rycroft ran together in 24:37.
