There is rugby with a difference at Percy Road on both Saturday and Sunday, with two entertaining games in prospect.
On Saturday, a Junior Coaches XV plays a Pocklington Pilgrims XV with a 2.15pm kick off as a fundraising game for the juniors. Both sides have an array of talent at their disposal, though the Coaches XV will be a mixture of some current players and a number of stars of yesteryear who are pulling their boots back on for the occasion. There is also a hog roast and a raffle with some notable prizes. Admission is by ticket, available at the gate, which includes a visit to the hog roast.
Sunday is Pocklington RUFC’s annual finale when Pocklington 1st XV takes on a President’s XV, kick off 2pm. The club president, Angus Mitchell, has selected a strong side of players from local clubs, several of whom have played representative or higher level rugby and/or with Pocklington links. Against them, the Pocklington side will be looking to finish their season in style after a campaign that saw them again finish in a creditable sixth place in the North 1 East table.
The following Friday is Pocklington’s annual dinner and awards night in the clubhouse, where the rugby year is brought to a close with the presentation of individual and team awards for 2013-14. To book a place contact dinner organiser Dave Birch or junior chairman Gerry Childs.
