Sutton Ladies travelled to local opponents Bubwith this week, swapping thermal vests for suncream, as the long awaited warmer weather finally arrived.
Both teams played some excellent tennis in the glorious sunshine. However, despite a commendable effort by Bubwith, all three Sutton pairs were on top form and enjoyed a comfortable win 64-44. Top scorers were Anna Fell and Lynne Marriage on 23 games, followed by Rachel Mintoft and Romualda Plewes on 22 and Peggy Hodgson with Fenella Hobson on 19.
The first mixed team played Rowntree Park at home. It was another tough game ending in 64-44 to the opposition. Chris Lochman and Lucy Collier scored 15 games, as did Dave Nowell and Catherine Postlethwaite. Chris Hobson and Goldie Cosby scored 14.
The third mixed team played last Monday against New Earswick away and had another win so, all in all, a very positive start to the season. The score was 58-50.
This week, the fourth mixed team played at Bishopthorpe. It was a good, close match which ended in a win for Sutton, 58-50. Sally Simpson, Dave Nowell, Julian Phobe, Romualda Plewes, Louis Fell and Lynne Marriage all played.
The second mixed team played on Thursday, away at Tollerton. Adrian Hitchenor and Peggy Hodgson topped the table with 20 games. Anna Fell and Sam Hitchenor were a close second with 18 and Olivia Turner and Mark Pryce brought up the rear with 10. The overall score was 60-48 to Tollerton.
