The climax of the Triples bowling season was reached on Tuesday 6 March at Bubwith Leisure Centre.
Twenty teams took part and, on a tense and thrilling last day, three teams were in a position to win the title: Selby, Escrick, and last year’s winners, East Cottingwith.
Selby and Escrick played in a head-to-head, with Escrick winning by one point, which placed them at the top of the league.
Twenty minutes later, East Cottingwith played a strong Wilberfoss team and had to win the game in order to claim the league title for the second year running.
Once again a close game ensued, with the Escrick team having to sit and suffer the outcome on the sidelines. On the 12th and final end of the game, Wilberfoss were two points up and, with only one ball remaining, East Cottingwith looked down and out.
County player and East Cottingwith skipper, Richard Lochman, took aim and released the perfect wood. Result – five points on the head, a 12-9 victory, and league champions for the second year running.
Richard’s partners during the season were Dot Dicker and Brian Cottam.
They are now looking forward to next year and a triple title of the Selby Triples League.
