Pocklington under-11s played at home at the club against a strong Driffield team on Sunday 18 March.
Pocklington came out with great team spirit and played well, with plenty of forward momentum and great passing amongst the forwards and backs. Opportunities were soon created, with Will Husband and Charlie Laudage scoring in the first quarter and Rob Boddy converting both tries.
Driffield were not a pushover and Pocklington found themselves having to make big tackles to keep them at bay. Driffield had many attempts at scoring but were held off with great defensive work by Pocklington.
In the second quarter, Driffield failed to score but Laudage, Jonty Goddard and Billy Ackerley all scored a try to make it 34-0. Pocklington had enough men to swap round so that all could get a good game and the third quarter proved to be a well-fought match with some excellent rugby from the backs. Communications seemed to work with Will Husband attacking forward with a lovely sidestep and offloading the ball to Louis Ratcliffe who then passed the ball to Matthew Mann for an excellent try. This was soon followed by a determined run from Alex Todd who also scored. The fourth quarter started and neither team were backing down, even though some legs were looking tired. Callum Mcmanus showed good determination by holding on to the ball for a good run and setting Will McMullen up for a well-deserved try, followed by another fast attacking run by Boddy who also scored. This time it was Tom Bean’s turn to shine and, with teeth gritted and sheer determination, Bean powered through to score too.
It was a brilliant game for the spectators to watch with plenty of action within the four quarters. The final score ended in a 64-0 win to Pocklington. The man of the match was Will Husband for reading the game and showing great support throughout.
