It was a busy Easter weekend for golfers at the KP as the course held its 3 day Tour Competition for both the Men’s and Ladies’ sections.

In the Men’s Section, the opening round on Good Friday was surprisingly high scoring with no player able to break par.

Kevin Thomas, Paul Parker and Paul Palmer all shot rounds of 70 to share the early lead.

With Paul Parker unable to play and Kevin Thomas shooting an early 10 over par 80, the second round offered an opportunity for the pack to close in on the leaders.

Richard Daniells, Mark Nellist and Neil Atkinson shot sub-par rounds of 68, 69 and 69 respectively to put them back in the picture.

Paul Palmer kept up his challenge with a 71 which resulted in just one shot separating the front four.

The final day on Easter Sunday was definitely a case of what might have been for the leading contenders as scoring was harder than day one.

First to bite the dust was Paul Palmer with a 12 over par score of 82.

Neil Atkinson was also finding the going tough with seven shots dropped on the front nine.

A further two shots dropped on the new par three 15th saw the end to his chances. Meanwhile Mark and Richard were also struggling.

Richard had dropped three shots on the front nine and Mark was looking good as he reached two under par over the first six holes.

However, Mark then proceeded to drop five shots over the next four holes so the result was still in the balance.

A nett eagle and birdie looked to have clinched the title for Richard but he did his best to throw it away by dropping another six shots over the last six holes to leave him on 75 and a total over the three days of 216.

Fortunately for Richard, Mark could not take advantage and a six at the par three 17th sealed his fate and he finished just one shot behind on 217.

While he was celebrating his win, Richard’s wife, Gail, was busy wrapping up the Ladies’ title.

Following a great first round 66, Gail followed up with rounds of 79 and 84 to take the title by two shots from Steph Dobson, rounding off a successful Easter for the Daniells family.

The final scores were:

Men’s Section

Richard Daniells 216

Mark Nellist 217

Neil Atkinson 222

Ladies’ Section

Gail Daniells 229

Steph Dobson 231

Carol Nesfield 235

Sharing your name with a top celebrity chef means you are in line for all sorts of cooking related puns.

But now KP lady golfer Delia Smith has the opportunity to demonstrate her cooking ability as well as her golf, as she was recently the winner of a £50 meat voucher.

To mark the opening of the new par three 15th at the East Yorkshire course, local butchers Laverack’s provided the prize in a nearest the pin competition.

Delia served up the winning tee shot with a sweetly-hit six iron to take the prize in the mixed event.

Delia’s playing partners are hoping that when they next play the bacon butties will be on her.
