York Mitchell Sports League - Under-10s
The boys returned to action after the Easter break for the final game of the season.
Hamilton started the game but were soon dispossessed by Luke in defence. Looking up, Luke picked out Josh well with Josh taking the ball on and playing in Tom who was unlucky, with a good effort going narrowly wide. Panthers continued to dictate the pace of the game, this time Tom turning provider for Josh who hit a lovely shot that the keeper did well to save.
Hamilton pressed but Will had tracked back well and picked the ball up on the edge of the Panthers area, running through midfield, before finding Josh who forced the corner. Josh took the corner and whipped a good ball in, which Tom met with his head, forcing another good save from Hamilton’s keeper.
Hamilton played the ball out and hit a long hopeful ball through, which caught the Panthers off guard.
The forward ran on to the ball and a one-on-one with Matty in goal put Hamilton in front. The Panthers responded well. Luke and Charlie played well and Tom picked up the ball in midfield, hitting a good shot from almost half way, which the keeper just managed to tip on to the post.
Hamilton then attacked, hitting a good shot which Matty did very well to push up and on to the bar to keep it at 1–0 at half time, but much against the run of play.
Panthers started the second half and were soon on the attack with a lovely solo effort from Josh forcing yet another good save from the Hamilton keeper who was almost single-handedly keeping them in the game.
Charlie was playing some lovely football out of defence down the left wing, linking up well with Jamie who was switching from right to left, looking for openings.
Hamilton hit Panthers on the break and, as the ball bobbled around in the goalmouth, they somehow forced it across the line to give them a two-goal lead, totally against the run of play.Hamilton broke again but Matty was more than a match for the effort on goal, doing well to keep the ball out. Tom made way for Jack, who quickly made his physical presence felt with some good strong challenges in midfield.
Panthers pushed forward, forcing a corner, with Josh forcing the defender to clear off the goal line. Another Panthers corner followed. This time, Josh crossed which was met by Jack to score.
Panthers continued to pressure from the restart, now believing they could get something from the game and, after some good work in defence from Luke, the ball was played to Will, who then made a great solo run through the midfield and defence to lay the ball off for Jamie to level the scores at 2–2.
Panthers were now well on top again and running the game but just didn’t have enough time left on the clock to finish Hamilton off, the game ending 2-2.
Man of the match was awarded to Matty, who had been superb in goal again this week, pulling off several important saves. Panthers have played well this season and should all be pleased with their efforts, finishing fourth in a very tough league.
