Goalless games for Stamford Bridge girls

City of York Girls League Under-13s

Stamford Bridge0

Stamford Bridge, sponsored by ‘Cellhire, the global York based telecoms rental firm’ went into this vital game requiring a win to climb above their opponents.

Stamford started well with some excellent play between Eve Ferguson and Ellie Whytock, but they were unable to break through a strong Tockwith defence. In the early part of the game, Stamford had the edge and much of the game was played in the Tockwith half. However, as the game went on, Tockwith started to find their feet and the game became much more even, being played in the centre of the field with few chances created. Probing runs from Natalie Lynch and Ellie Whytock brought corners at best and, despite some excellent deliveries from Hannah Robertson, Stamford were unable to capitalise.

Tockwith started brightly in the second half and Stamford had their goalkeeper Georgia Stanton to thank on two occasions with some excellent work in keeping the Tockwith attackers out. The game remained tight with both teams playing their hearts out to push for the winner. But, despite much effort, the game finished a highly entertaining goalless draw which, on balance of play, was a fair result.
