It was a game of two halves as Stamford Bridge Scorpions, sponsored by Direct Tile Importers, awoke from a sluggish first half to breeze past Tockwith with a devastating second-half performance.

Tockwith started brightly and soon had the Scorpions pinned back. Ellie Barker, in the Scorpions goal, needed to be alert as Tockwith piled forward. Alex Harvey and Ella Spanton, in the Scorpions defence, restricted Tockwith to corners but these were dangerously floated in and Emma Orton had to head several clear. Olivia Cant needed to tackle bravely, but couldn’t get Scorpions’ passing game going.

It took the Scorpions nearly 15 minutes to create their first opening with Millie Templeman picking up a loose ball and clipping a shot just wide. Soon afterwards, Saffy Goddard was set free but her shot was well saved.

These two openings were the only bright spots in a half the Scorpions will be happy to forget.

After team changes were made, the second half was a different match. Orton and Harvey snapped at the Tockwith midfield and Templeman found space to start to boss the game. It wasn’t long before the Scorpions were in front.

The first came when Goddard whipped in a cross and Templeman poked home from a yard out. The second was a near carbon copy, this time Templeman crossing for Goddard to finish.

Scorpions could have had several more, with Templeman rattling the bar and Orton, Harvey and Goddard all dragging shots wide after neat interchanges. In the end, they settled for just one more, a fierce strike from Templeman who then almost grabbed a deserved hat-trick with a powerful late header.
