Barmby Moor Juniors U9s 2, Garforth Rangers U9s 0
The “NFU MUTUAL” sponsored Barmby Moor under 9’s entertained Garforth Rangers in their final home game in the Selby League.
In typical fashion, the Barmby Moor Under 9’s were somewhat slow to find their rhythm and settle down. As a result, the visitors were allowed more possession of the ball than perhaps they deserved. However, despite a somewhat laboured start, Bailey Camerin, Joe Chiney and in particular, Daniel Hogben attacked the Garforth goal on several occasions with some great shots. Unfortunately, they were frustrated by good solid goalkeeping from the Garforth keeper. Daniel Hogben did manage to beat the keeper with a powerful dipping free kick but this time he was denied by a rattling crossbar and the visitors survived the onslaught.
The Barmby boys emerged after the break and passed with much greater purpose. Bailey Camerin was unlucky to convert a good header and the goal-bound shots of Daniel Hogben and Frankie Buckle were once again defused by the gallant efforts of the visiting keeper.
Henry Wilson moved further up-field and applied greater attacking intent. Soon his efforts were rewarded as he spotted the Garforth keeper off his line and obliged the home fans by calmly stroking the ball into the net from distance. Moments later, he forced his way through the Garforth defence and placed his shot nicely from a tight angle. This secured a second goal for Barmby Moor and thereon they remained in control of the match, leaving their defensive players and goalkeeper with relatively little to do.
Man of the Match was awarded to Henry Wilson for his clinical finishing which secured the win for the home team.
Next week, Barmby Moor Under 9’s play their final league game against North Duffield Dragons.
