Cold and wet mud bath for Pock Runners

It wasn’t a day for putting on your Sunday best when Pocklington Runners headed out to Welton Dale for the penultimate race in the cross country series. This was proper cross country… wet, cold and moreover, a complete mudfest. At least the threatened heavy rain held off as Pocklington’s grubbiest slipped and slid their way around the undulating 5.4 mile course in and around the small village.

First home for Pock was Simon Rycroft, who came in third overall in a time of 34:40 followed by Andy Fox 36:19, Warwick Anderson 36:59, Steven Worth 37:14 and Patrick Piggott 41:00.

Jess Fox came in first for the ladies in a great time of 42:49, followed by Stuart Evans 44:20, Drew Gill 45:50, Paul Sheridan 46:18, Debbie Rycroft 48:19, Dale Smith 50:30, Holly Davis 51:41, Sharron Anderson 63:51 and last, but most definitely not least, Di Thompson came in at 66:21.

Meanwhile, over by the bright lights of Cleckheaton, Mike Pullon was competing in the Liversedge Half Marathon, where he fought the chilly, very windy, drizzly conditions and battled the incredibly hilly course to finish an amazing second in his category in a time of 1:37:09, knocking a couple of minutes off the last time he ran it. Is that a case of “Well done Mike” or “Should have tried harder the first time round”?

Pocklington Runners are always looking for new members, so if you have a killer competitive streak or just fancy a run and a chat why not give them a go? They meet on Wednesdays at the Rugby Club at around 6.30pm.
