Letter: We must scrap tax credit cuts

I totally agree with Audrey Atkinson’s letter regarding working tax credit cuts.

The Government’s argument for making these devastating cuts are flawed.

To claim that introducing the living wage to £7.20 (for over 25s), and raising tax thresholds will make working tax credit recipients better off is rubbish.

Three quarters of people receiving the new living wage don’t claim any tax credits, and the Institute of Fiscal Studies have announced that three million people will be on average £1,300 per annum worse off.

For the sake of these three million let’s hope the Government sees sense and scrap this proposal before it causes real hardship for hard working people.

It would also be very interesting to hear Sir Greg Knight’s views on this issue.
