Letter: Let’s give bees a chance to survive

Applications have been made to lift the ban on bee-killing pesticides.
Applications have been made to lift the ban on bee-killing pesticides.

I understand that two applications have been made to lift the ban on bee-killing neonicotinoid pesticides this year, and that this week Liz Truss, the environment minister, could decide to lift the ban on bee-killing pesticides for some crops this summer.

Is it me or are there some people out there (industry leaders, industrialists, capitalists) who actually want to destroy all life on earth in the name of growth and profit? Because that’s how it seems to me. I find it absolutely staggering the kind of bills which are being pushed through parliament: sometimes at night, sometimes hidden in big long rambling bills so it goes through unnoticed.

Why do we have to fight our own government to do the right thing? Aren’t they supposed to do what we the people ask of them? Isn’t that how democracy works? Oh, I forgot, we don’t have democracy do we.

The lobbyists have infiltrated Government they no longer just lobby Government. The ministers are scared/impotent to do anything about it I suspect. Well, I think it’s high time we all mobilise to save our own futures and to create some real democracy.

Let’s show these jokers we mean business! I encourage everyone to seek out your local group or organisation that is doing something to help in whatever area is of interest to you.

The other thing people can do is to disseminate information about the issues we face and to point them towards some sort of grass roots movement. Search online for 38 degrees, it’s a good starting point.

Capitalism is in it’s death throws like it or lump it. Let’s create the world we want now. They won’t do it for us, we have to do it ourselves.
