Letter: Developers must balance issues

Your article on the development of POC-C (Reservoir plans to combat flooding, January 14) to the north of Pocklington reports that if Persimmon provides a flood alleviation scheme of a standard required by the East Riding of Yorkshire Council and the Environment Agency then they may be unable to comply with the terms for provision of affordable housing.

It seems to me that both elements are equally valuable if the development is to provide the great benefit to the town which Persimmon say they wish to create.

I recognise that Persimmon sets profitability targets for their very successful company but surely they took both factors (flood alleviation and affordable housing) into account when putting together their proposals for developing this site
