A teenager from the Pocklington area has reached the last three in the search for Yorkshire’s best young chef.
In a tense semi-final Zacharias Abbott, 16, from Stamford Bridge, who is studying level one catering at York College, qualified for the final.
The Golden Apron is run by James Mackenzie, chef/owner of the Michelin-starred Pipe and Glass Inn at South Dalton and the Yorkshire Wolds Cookery School.
Each semi-finalist had to prepare a dish of their own devising using locally sourced pork as a core ingredient
The judging team praised Zacharias for his innovative dish of Earl-Grey-crusted pork tenderloin on a bed of curly kale with fondant potato and apple and bergamot puree, calling it ‘unexpectedly refreshing and very tasty’.
The three finalists will now cook alongside James Mackenzie on Monday 9 November.
