A Korean war veteran had an emotional day recently when he was awarded a medal and an Ambassador for Peace Official Proclamation from the people of the Republic of Korea.
Denis Husband, 82, of Sherbuttgate Road South, Pocklington, was presented with a Korean War Veteran medal by General Sir Charles Huxtable at a ceremony at Eden Camp. Denis said: “It was a surprise. I didn’t know until about a fortnight ago, they wouldn’t tell me what it was for.” All these years after the Korean War, the South Korean people remain steadfastly grateful to the young British soldiers who fought in Korea. Denis received the Military Medal from the Queen in 1954 for “superb gallantry in hand to hand fighting” during the Battle of the Hook.
