Guides and Rangers from Pocklington were dazzled by some of the biggest names in UK pop as they headed to Wembley Arena in London for Girlguiding’s BIG GIG.
The 7th Pocklington Guides and the Rangers joined a girl-only crowd of more than 10,000 at the event, held exclusively for Guides from all over the UK.
The 40 local girls, all aged between 10 and 16, enjoyed performances from a stellar line-up including chart toppers Little Mix, street dance superstars Diversity, girl group Neon Jungle and four-piece boyband Union J.
The girls sang along and screamed for their favourites but they managed not to lose their voices and were able to continue singing to their favourite pop tunes all the way home from Wembley.
Annette Blanchard and her fellow Guide Leaders led the girls on their adventure to Wembley. She said: “The Big Gig is one of the highlights of the Guiding year. It is a real adventure for many of the girls because they haven’t been to a live gig in such a huge venue before. Being surrounded by so many other Guides makes the atmosphere even more special. I’m not sure who enjoyed it more, the girls or the Leaders, we were all singing along with them!”
The BIG GIG is hosted by Girlguiding for members aged between 10 and 14, and has seen some of the biggest names in pop – including Ed Sheeran, Tinie Tempah and Rita Ora – perform at major venues around the UK over its 13-year history.
